I have been looking at all of the online ads touting the value of AI writing. It seems they are writing everything for you from ads to stories. This is telling me that I may be the last of my breed, or at least near the last of my breed.
The idea of making a career in writing is going the way of careers like being a smithy or a fireman on a locomotive. Very soon no one will pay a human to write anything. Writing will just be an amusement for people that feel the need to be creative.
There are all kinds of careers that have come and gone. Automation has taken a great deal of those. I just thought creativity, especially for entertainment, would always be in the hands of human beings. Well, it looks like I was wrong.
At my age, I am at the end of my writing line in any case. This new wave will not be a problem for me. I am thinking about the young people who have that same “I must tell you a story” urge that I’ve had. What will they do with it?
It’s bad enough that reading stories is now only done by a comparative few, but soon they won’t have to buy a story. They will just tell the AI what kind of story they would like to read and something about, what they would like to see in it, and a book would appear. It could even be printed and sent to the reader.
There is nothing AI can’t write given sufficient information. Hashing out ideas and coming up with clever lines will go the way of hammering out the iron on the forge and hanging the clothes out on the line. It will just be more things that people will wonder how they were done without help.
